Peso da Régua Railway Station Platform

Built on the waterfront of the wine growing centre of the Lower Corgo, at the confluence of the Douro, in an area that was still sparsely populated at the end of the 19th century, Peso da Régua Station comprises several structures that make up the whole. Like other similar buildings, the ground floor of the main two storey building functions as a ticket office, waiting rooms and the Station Master’s Office, and there is also a small café inside, adapted for that purpose in the 20th century.
 
Designed as a vital focal point, par excellence, for the transportation of the goods produced and sold in this huge stretch of Portuguese territory, the warehouse is structurally adapted for this purpose, which is why the northern face abuts directly on to one of the tracks, so that twenty-two doors (as well as one to the street) open in such a way as to make loading of the cargoes quicker and more direct, between the train carriages and the vehicles that arrived by the road that forms the external side.
