About Us
The Tourist Office (GTUR) is an organised unit within the Douro Alliance Association, whose aims are to strengthen the capacity of institutional cooperation within the tourism sector, consolidate and improve the image of the region and enhance the existing tourist provision.
The GTUR structure is central to achieving the objectives of cooperation set out in the Douro Alliance Strategic Programme, namely: strengthening the economic potential of the territorial base, and developing an image and common promotional policy so as to make the tourism sector a catalyst for the social and economic development of the region. By using a strong element of innovation coupled with new technologies, it also contributes to the strategic objectives defined in the two measures under Strategic Axis IV: (1) to stimulate economic conversion, diversification and innovation networks; and (2) to ensure the use of ICT for innovation.

 Aims

 This project aims to strengthen the capacity of institutional cooperation in the tourism sector, consolidate and improve the attractiveness of the region and enhance the existing tourist provision. The aims will be achieved through the creation of an image promotion structure and through attracting investment in tourism.

Specific objectives

 The specific objectives of the GTUR are as follows:

Increased competitiveness in the region, as compared to competing regions, in attracting visitors and investment in the sector;
The creation of more and better information about the tourist provision available within the network, thus contributing to a better service to tourists. This information and its dissemination, as well as the associated promotional activities, will help increase the competitiveness of existing businesses and foster the emergence of new businesses/services. Moreover, the use of new technologies and/or contents with tourist information, combined with GPS location and/or navigation, will create business opportunities in the sector for new services and content;
To give visibility to all members of the local tourism supply chain;
To make stakeholders aware of the need to work together to set up a network of professional relationships that culminate in the development of tourism products and services offered by all.
