Douro Museum

The Douro Region has a unique place in the national and international world of wine, due to its history, the diversity and recognised quality of its wines and its exceptional landscape, the result of Man’s work in the creation and exploitation of the hillside vineyards. 

The Douro Museum was established in 1997 in order to provide a sample of the region. Located in a former Manor House, it brings together other museum collections spread across the country in order to better promote the region. Apart from housing several exhibitions, it also promotes the permanent exhibition “Reminiscence of the Wine Country”.  
 
In promoting the region’s personalities, poets, winemakers, painters … we are promoting pride in the Douro as well as cohesion. This, basically, is the role of the Douro Museum: and the archives, library, collections, exhibitions, publications of all kinds provide its support.
