This Romanesque church was built in the first half of the 12th century, and is documented in 1145. Unfortunately, little more is known about this first phase of construction, since some time later, it was completely rebuilt. There were many modifications between the 16th and 18th centuries, at which time the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament was opened, the gilded carvings were done and the Choir was built, and the church remains a remarkable testimony to the exceptional Romanesque architecture in the Lamego area. The plan of the church is longitudinal, comprising a single nave and chancel with a square bell tower backing onto the body, on the right-hand side, built long after the Romanesque work was completed.
