Church and Convent of Santa Cruz

Classification: IIP - Property of Public Interest.
 
Work on the convent complex began in 1596, the first sod being turned on 14 September, the day of the Exaltation of the Cross, to which the convent would be dedicated. The works lasted for centuries, and were the object of profound changes and different architectural influences.
 
With the extinction of the Religious Orders, the Misericódia sought to establish its hospital here, but it ended up being turned into a barracks, and this remains its purpose still today.
