Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Esperança

Classification: PPI - Property of Public Interest

Founded in 1586 by Father Francisco Gonçalves.

With an exterior porch, the chapel features magnificent Baroque carvings made by local artists between the end of the 17^th and early 18^th centuries.

On the high altar there is a rather archaic and unusual image of Nossa Senhora da Esperança (Our Lady of Hope), a valuable polychrome sculpture in stone from Ançâ, carved between the 15^th and 16^th centuries. 

It also has a precious carved wooden sculpture of the Senhor da Cana Verde or "Ecce Homo" (17^th century). The walls are covered with beautiful tiles from the 17^th century.
