Vila Velha Museum

The Vila Velha Museum was established as the corollary of the archaeological explorations conducted in recent years in Vila Velha. The digs have already produced results on an unimaginable scale for the general public. However, the intention is to continue with the work, thus contributing to an accumulation of information – and an increased collection – that will have more visible results in the exhibitions to be organised by the Vila Velha Museum. At the same time, the goal is to increase the number of archaeological sites that can be visited, beyond those already available – the City Gates structure and urban vestiges in the S. Dinis street.
 
The interior layout of the Museum, spread over two storeys, allows for two exhibition spaces: on the lower floor, an area for temporary exhibitions on various themes; and on the upper floor, a space for medium-term exhibitions, preferably related to archaeology.
